The Heart Behind RaRa
Founder's Story
"In caring for them, something unexpected happened — I began to heal."
In 2020, during the height of COVID, my life quietly fell apart. I was asked to leave my job. My side businesses and investments ended in failure. My marriage was also ending. I was temporarily without a home, facing financial uncertainty, and trying to hold myself together while everything around me was shifting. I fell into a deep depression. I withdrew from the world.
Then, almost by accident, I saw a social media post. Singapore had strict quarantine measures for returning travellers — while owners were confined indoors, their dogs still needed to be walked. Someone in River Valley needed help. It was close to my home. I didn't feel ready to face people — but I could show up for a dog.
So I did.
I started volunteering, with no experience and no expectations. For a full year, I walked dogs simply to help. The dogs gave me a reason to step outside. They slowed me down. They pulled me back into sunlight, into nature, into routine, into noticing the world again. The dogs didn't judge me. They didn't ask questions. They only needed presence, patience, and consistency. In many ways, the dogs saved me.
During this season, a simple line shared by Ejae stayed with me: "Rejection is redirection." Looking back, I realised that what once felt like loss — the relationship ending, the closed doors — was quietly guiding me toward something I never planned for. This pet care journey was accidental, unexpected, and truly a god-send — a beautiful gift I never knew I needed.
As I continued, one belief became deeply clear: care should never be rushed or divided. I saw how stressful it was for pets to be placed with too many unfamiliar animals at once, and how difficult it was for sitters to truly connect when caring for multiple households together. That was when my philosophy became clear — one pet at a time, or pets from the same household. Less stress for the animals. Better focus for the sitter. The kind of individualised care every pet truly deserves.
What began as volunteering slowly evolved — first into accepting small amounts just to cover transport, and eventually into charging a fair, market rate. When demand grew beyond what I could handle alone, my dream grew bigger. I knew it was time to build something bigger than myself — a team of sitters who shared the same heart, values, and respect for animals.
That is how RaRa Pet Care was born — not from ambition, but from service; not from a business plan, but from healing; and not from a desire to grow fast, but from a commitment to care deeply.
Today, RaRa Pet Care is rooted in River Valley and serves families across Singapore, guided by the same belief that started it all: when we give first, care follows naturally.
